What a difference a couple of months makes…

In what seemed like an instant, all of our lives changed. Unlike an earthquake, tsunami or tornado, this force is invisible and has affected all people in all countries, all roughly at the same time. We transitioned from a physical to a virtual world seemingly overnight.

Job loss and speculation about the new future range from uncertain to bleak.

The news is not all bad. Stories about acts of kindness, with people checking in on their neighbors, volunteering to do errands and sharing supplies, musicians and performers playing from their balconies and garages, are everywhere.

There is a new awareness of the value of our living space.

We are profoundly and intimately aware of our surrounds with reflective detail like never before.

Where we live matters.

Whether we live in an apartment or house, whether we rent or own, we now look at and value our space differently.

This may explain why, surprisingly, this has not had a noticeable effect on San Francisco real estate prices.  Far fewer properties available, with far fewer sales, yes…but the prices remain steady with those transactions that have closed since we started our sheltering in place program on March 16th.

If you’d like to see what has happened with real estate sales in this first quarter of 2020 in your neighborhood, you can see that (and sales data going back to 1994), by visiting my Property Values page.

More blogs coming soon.

Stay safe, Roland::
